In Amstat News Winners of the 2004 ASA Poster Competition Announced The American Statistical Association is proud to announce the winners of the 15th annual American Statistics Poster Competition. Poster entries came from four grade level categories: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Judges based their decisions on overall impact, clarity of poster message, appropriateness of graphics, originality and creativity, and technical details. Special Lectures at JSM 2004
David Donoho, Stanford University, will present "The Romance of Hidden Components" as the 2004 ASA Presidential Invited Address, on Monday, August 9. The Deming Lecture, "Deming and Bell Labs," will be delivered by Colin Mallows of Avaya Labs on Tuesday, August 10. Donald B. Rubin, John L. Loeb Professor of Statistics at Harvard University, will deliver the 2004 Fisher Lecture, "Causal Inference Using Potential Outcomes: Design, Modeling, Decisions," on Wednesday, August 11. FDA/Industry Statistics Workshop Web Site Open
"Science, Statistics and Decisions - The Right Questions and the Best Answers," September 21-23
This three-day workshop is the eighth in a series of annual meetings that have been sponsored by the ASA Biopharmaceutical Section in cooperation with the FDA Statistical Association. It will be held at the newly renovated Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. Tutorials, including classes on Bayesian statistics, multivariate survival, missing data/imputation methodologies, and analysis datasets, are scheduled for September 21. Two days of sessions on the science and statistics associated with the development of new medical products (pharmaceuticals, biologics, and devices) will follow.
